(Yogyakarta, Indonesia) - The Chinese New Year celebration has brought a blessing to basket cake producers, one of which is located in Tukangan Village, Danurejan, Yogyakarta City. This legendary basket cake producer, which has been in operation since the 1960s, has managed to produce an astonishing 1.5 tons of basket cakes.
According to Sulistyowati, the second-generation owner of the business, the basket cake production process is still done traditionally, using manual labor. The traditional process has been maintained to preserve the unique taste of the basket cakes. "Our production process is still entirely traditional, from cooking the dough to using a kerosene stove, which takes seven hours," she explained.
In the production process, Sulistyowati is assisted by six employees. The high demand for basket cakes during this year's Chinese New Year celebration has resulted in a production of 1.5 tons of basket cakes. "During the Chinese New Year, we use 200 kilograms of flour and sugar per day. So far, we have produced 1.5 tons of basket cakes," Sulistyowati said.
Sulistyowati admitted that the basket cake production in Tukangan Village has been passed down from generation to generation. The unique taste of the basket cakes has made them a legendary culinary delight that is always in high demand during the Chinese New Year celebration. The price of one kilogram of basket cakes is set at IDR 54,000 (approximately USD 3.70) and is selling well during the Chinese New Year celebration.
"The customers are from Yogyakarta and surrounding areas, but we also receive orders from outside the city, such as Gombong, Magelang, Semarang, and other areas in Java," Sulistyowati concluded. (Raya Sanjiwani)
